Vista House

Vista House is a collection of three primary forms, linked by a bold spine. Each of the forms are defined by their individual use and orientation and are gently separated by courtyards and a change in scale. The elongated masonry spine can be recognised both internally and externally across the entire design and slowly reveals the view beyond.

Tom Robertson Architects bring a confident offering to the existing collection of exceptional houses for the Ruum Escape Collection. This range looks to explore some of the opportunities on offer for rural or coastal properties. Like all of their work, there is a strong focus on a simplified and rigorous floor plan configuration. And an architectural aesthetic that focuses on great natural light, air flow and calming material palette.

This design has been created for a large site within a rural/coastal setting. The configuration of the form lends itself to a broad site, with Northern orientation/views.

The house is a collection of three primary forms, linked by a bold spine. Each of the forms is defined by their individual use and orientation - which are gently separated by courtyards and a change in scale. This design will appeal to families as either a primary or secondary home. Easily sited in a rural or coastal landscape, the house is robust, confident and joyful.

The base floor plan is arranged to suit a family with 2-3 children. But this can be modified simply to align with any family structure. The dominant feature of the design includes the elongated masonry spine which can be recognised both internally and externally across the entire design. It brings a strong sense of privacy from the more exposed street aspect. The solidity of the spine slowly reveals the view beyond. The masonry spine is complimented and softened by timber lined interiors to bring a strong sense of warmth and homeliness. In addition, the central volume (the living area) opens up toward the north. This floods the space with an abundance of natural light.

Introducing Tom Robertson Architects

Tom Robertson Architects are a diverse team, driven by a shared love of exceptional architecture. They bring to the Ruum Escape Collection a strong focus on a simplified and rigorous floor plan configuration and an architectural aesthetic that focuses on great natural light, air flow and a calming material palette.

In Tom's words, "We were excited to work with Ruum, because ultimately we believe in the idea. We see this as an amazing opportunity to explore a sector of the housing market which is currently under serviced. In addition we are challenged by the idea of making the design applicable to the general market."
